Dave and his wife Kim have been married 25 years. |
Whether your concerns lie in the areas of economic development, taxes, jobs or revamping state government...Dave's experience and personal commitment assure you of solutions!
Husband to Kim Nabity for 25 years and father of seven children, Dave's career began with two eastern mutual life insurance companies. He became an advisor to small business owners, helping them structure buy-sell insurance, key executive plans, and retirement plans. In 1984, Dave formed his own firm: Nabity Financial Group. In 2004, Dave was awarded Small Business Person of the Year by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
As a financial advisor, Dave has experienced firsthand the negative impact of national politics, tax policies, and governmental actions on his customers and their businesses. He and his clients have lived through many tax reform acts. However, the Tax Reform Act of 1986 seriously hurt many of them. It took a huge toll on business owners, real estate companies, and savings and loans, by retroactively changing the way real estate was taxed.
Dave began to realize that he and his clients weren't the only ones struggling to meet these challenges. He also realized that factors affecting business also affect all Nebraskans. This realization made him think...and it nurtured a commitment to business that has since characterized his career. He even has been known to spend personal capital in defense of the Nebraska business owner.

Dave and his family - Summer 2005 |
Just knowing about a problem isn't enough to make a difference. Early in his career, Dave campaigned for various candidates before becoming the State Chairman of the Young Republicans of Nebraska. He drew on this political experience and began to speak out, urging "no-nonsense" solutions.
When a government-sponsored National Health Insurance Plan was promoted heavily in 1991, Dave analyzed the plan and determined a hidden problem...it would dramatically increase the cash flow expenses of the typical small business owner to pay for health coverage. Concerned not only for his own clients, but also for all Nebraska businesses, he held a press conference and presented his findings to the local media.
Dave's ideas were recognized as a voice of reason on tax reform. He began to share his knowledge with businesses, not only with his own clients, but also with radio and television audiences -informing and advising business owners on the air as many as five times a day. Dave was KFAB's business and financial news editor, and then became business and financial news commentator for WOWT Channel 6. He also hosted a three-hour call-in talk show for KKAR called "Money Wise."
His on-air experience led to the expansion of the marketing programs in Dave's firm to include a variety of public seminars on business, investment, and financial planning. By 1998, Nabity Financial Group had grown from three to twenty-two employees.
