FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nabity Accuses Opponents of Ducking Debates (Omaha, NE--December 9, 2005) Today, Republican candidate for governor Dave Nabity once again called for a series of debates to prepare Nebraska citizens for the upcoming election. Both of his opponents have declined to meet for eight one-hour debates, blaming time restraints. However, according to Nabity, there are 21 weeks and 840 working hours available for debating (using eight-hour work days to calculate) between now and the election. Eight debates would consume only 0.9% of the time remaining. “That’s less than 1% of the time left!” Nabity said. “The public has a right to know where all the candidates stand on the issues, and debates are the best way to air our differences. I would hope my opponents could show enough respect for the voters to make 0.9% of their time available for debates. The people of Nebraska want these debates to occur beyond Omaha and Lincoln and have committed to hosting them.” Nabity proposed debating, beginning in January, twice a month until the end of April. Each debate would be an hour long and focus on a specific issue. “Clearly, if my opponents will not agree to making 0.9% of their time available for debating, they are ducking. And it is a loss for the voters,” stated Nabity. “There are so many serious issues confronting us, such as tax relief, government spending, education reform, water policy, the future of agriculture, health care, creating economic growth and crime. Each issue deserves more than a 30-second sound bite,” added Nabity. “I think voters deserve to hear directly from the candidates how they will govern this great state and what their plans are for our future, in a public forum, face to face.” For more information about candidate Dave Nabity and his campaign to become governor of Nebraska, please visit www.NabityforGovernor.com.
