Term Limits: A Historic Opportunity.

In the process of traveling throughout the state listening to the concerns of citizens, there's no doubt about it - we are "One Nebraska" when it comes to:

  1. Desiring statewide economic development.

  2. Our understanding of the necessity to grow the economic pie.

  3. Wanting state government to be run more efficiently.

  4. Longing for a lower tax burden.

  5. Our commitment to sustain a wonderful quality of life.

I have no doubt there is an 'agreement of purpose' in Lincoln in setting the economic goal of creating "One Nebraska." However, I believe to achieve the creation of a prosperous "One Nebraska," we need not only have an 'agreement of purpose' but also an 'agreement of strategy' among lawmakers. I'm extremely optimistic this can happen, because before us lies a historic opportunity to realize

unprecedented cooperation between the next governor and legislature. As you know, term limits is the law of the land in Nebraska. Whether you agree with term limits or not isn't the issue. The fact is they are here. That means, in 2006 the people of Nebraska will elect twenty new senators from term-limited districts. If I become your next governor, I'll need to work with senators who are on the same page as you and I when it comes to achieving many of the needed economic reforms and goals discussed in my campaign. I'll need to work with senators who have aggressive economic development, lower taxes and efficient state government at the top of their economic priority list. And I'll need senators who are willing to say, and believe, "Now is the time for change. Now is the window of opportunity. Now is when we can move forward." Ask those running for the legislature in 2006 from your district where they stand on economic issues. Do they believe it's time to change the way we do business in Lincoln? Are they willing to ask the tough questions and make the tough decisions? Do they have a passion to transform Nebraska into the Jewel of the Midwest? If the answer is 'yes,' then send them to Lincoln. Together we can make sure Nebraska's best days are in the future. Together we can build a prosperous "One Nebraska."
